Willow Fact
Tortured willow Salix matsudana ‘Tortuosa’
By most standards willows are very short lived trees. Most willows will live to no more than a century. However, because willows can be propagated from cuttings a particular tree can live forever. Cuttings taken from a parent plant are exact genetic copies or clones and therefore certain willows cultivated in ancient times are exactly the same as those still used today.
